What if today were Gawker's last day on earth?

Clever. Deep. Acute. Insightful.  No?

Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and it was gone.
Would your life be different, at all?

Reblog your answer.

Zach Galifianakis...

He’s still considered cutting edge, right?  Can’t be late to the game as a creative thought leader.

…mentioned he just told Time Warner Cable he was not going to be the face of their new ad campaign. It would’ve only been 11 days of work and would have paid him $700,000 dollars. Yes, read that again. $700,000.

Pretty smooth ambiente indie reference, right?  You know Eno produced The Joshua Tree and early Talking Heads, right?  Oh you didn’t…oh.  Better keep reading.   At SFO, wishing they were playing Brian Eno’s Music For Airports over the loudspeakers, instead of Aerosmith.

it’s like a beacon of brilliance eminating from the earhole.
There is a subtle powerlessness that I feel in NYC that is absent in SF. I don’t want to move anytime soon, but this does feel like a more appropriate place for me to live.

Just Admit It

Every other department, however…still acting really cool.

Sometimes I’m doing email and I open one that was sent within the past minute. I then do “Mark as unread” because I don’t want to look like a loser who just sits there waiting for email.

Anyway, I just decided I’m going to stop trying to act cool in this department.

Great idea: build a sunken-in conversation pit around a tree! Spotted in Los Altos.

Domain Name Tips

Did you know vimeo is actually just anagram for movie?  Or maybe it’s video w/ “me” inside!  Brilliant, no?

I have become a domain name hoarder. There are 54 in my GoDaddy account and I have been registering new ones at the rate of 1 or 2 a week. Does this make me a squatter?

Anyway, I would like to share some tips with you for discovering interesting domain names that are available.

-Combine simple words with numbers: node14.com
-Combine a sex word with a children word: toddlerporn.com
-Combine two words that could never be together in real life: heavyinch.com
-Make a fun keyboard pattern: 1q2w3.com
-Use Instant Domain Search and type a long word slowly, checking each partially-spelled version: nincomp.com

Bye!

Back.

I wish I could quit you, tumbla.

Greetings from San Francisco! I’m here for one week to relax and to spend time with family and friends. I’m spending my days at Bleacher Report, my cousin Bryan’s web startup.

After taking a breather, I’m ready to return to blogging. As an experiment, I will maintain three separate blogs (easy with Tumblr):

Jakob Lodwick.com
I will continue to post announcements, pictures of myself, and information about my music company, Normative, to this website. I will no longer post much private information — I have learned my lesson. Private information, by its nature, cannot be public. I intend to comply with this aspect of reality. I will no longer hand loaded guns to thugs.

Enjoyble
This will be my ‘good culture’ blog, where I share photographs, illustrations, music, web design, and other stuff that I like. I see little value in drawing attention to something that I do not like. Attention, in the form of links or posts, is extremely valuable on the web; I intend to lavish it on what is good and deny it to what is bad.

My taste can be summed up easily: I value innovation and craftsmanship. I also like things that are triumphant and sexy.

The Invisible Fist
In my lifetime, I intend to live in a country that is governed by a free market. Such a system has — I stress! — never existed. Any nation which mixes government and its economy is not free. All nations throughout history have not been free.

None of our problems can be blamed on the free market, just as nothing can be blamed on global peace. Humans have yet to achieve a free market.

The great hoax of our civilization is as follows. Government has teamed up with businesses to created a system of unchecked power, and persuaded the public that such a system is necessary.

I refer to this system as The Invisible Fist. On this site I will attempt to show why it is dangerous and I will advocate an alternative system.

I hope you enjoy reading my blogs!
